Real Mixed Martial Arts Is Not A Gym But A Home To A Community
"Real Mixed Martial Arts (RMMA) is the result of a lifetime of work in the martial arts," said Owner and Head Trainer, Brian Wright. "I have learned that you retain members by offering a high level of service and creating group unity. That's why I don't have lengthy contracts but offer month to month memberships. I feel that you only need contracts if your teaching methods can't back up your sales pitch." After teaching martial arts in the community for the past 11 years, Wright has upgraded his profile by moving RMMA to a 7,000 square foot training center that houses everything a martial arts enthusiast needs to develop their skills.
RMMA's training programs can help anyone reach their wellness, fitness or competitive goals. "I work with children as young as four and a half and adults as old as 67 and every age in between," said Wright. "I even work with a disabled member to help build his strength and flexibility." Trainers are prepared to work with members in Muay Thai, Ju Jitsu, Boxing, Karate, MMA, KickFit, Conditioning and more. NJ High School State Champion and Div 1 All American Wrestler, Nick Roy, has made RMMA the home of his famed Triumph Wrestling Club. "RMMA is one of a kind," said Wright. "We have a regulation boxing ring, wrestling mats, judo mats, weight room, cardio machines and locker room and showers."
Competition is something RMMA does well but it is not the main focus. "My personal philosophy is one of self discovery through dedicated training that challenges students in a positive and progressive way," said Wright. "Being a competitive athlete occupies a small window in ones life. The true challenge is being a martial artist for one's entire life versus being a fighter for a few years."
"I call this philosophy "Real Fighting Lifestyle" and basically it has more to do with developing a fighting spirit," continued Wright. "At RMMA, we work to develop people that are strong enough to be "real" with themselves and live life by their own terms. We push students so that they know what they are capable of. This inspires confidence and develops the strength to live a life that is uncompromising when it comes to personal goals, ideals and values."
Wright started learning about pushing himself and his own limits when he began training as a child in 1980. He started out as a traditional Karate practitioner which gave him the foundation he needed to develop learning skills and the drive to excel in the martial arts. Although Karate gave Wright his base, his training has included a combination of Karate, Judo, Sambo, Ju Jitsu, Muay Thai and Boxing. Through competition and training, he has crossed the globe to work with some of the best trainers in the world in 13 different countries and in almost every state in the U.S.
As a competitor, Wright has seen action as a member of the US National Karate Team, a professional Muay Thai, Knockdown, K-1 and MMA fighter. Most notably, Wright won Silver at the Full Contact Karate World Championships in Sydney, Australia in 1997, was a two time Northeast Sabaki Challenge Champion, and is a multiple time state, regional and national Karate Champion.
"Although I have had success as a competitor, I get more satisfaction out of my achievements as a trainer," said Wright. Over the past 11 years, he as produced numerous champions in Karate, Muay Thai, Boxing, Ju Jitsu and MMA. "I've trained four world champions all from right here in Ocean Township," said Wright.
